Sherri Ferguson - President of Shanfe Research & Consulting

Sherri Ferguson

President - Shanfe Research & Consulting

Sherri Ferguson is the President of Shanfe Research and Consulting Ltd. A subject matter expert in hyperbaric, hypobaric and diving safety and training, she holds a Master of Science in biomedical physiology from Simon Fraser University. Her research includes cardiac function, decompression, and the effects of hypoxia on cognition and brain activity. She has conducted research for organizations such as Air Canada and Corrections Canada.

Our instructors are leaders in their fields — from hyperbaric medicine and chamber operations to emergency preparedness and dive safety. Each brings unique experience and a passion for teaching to every course we offer.

Francois Burman

Int(PE), MSc, FSAIW, UHMSDSA

Originally from Cape Town (South Africa), Francois currently resides in Durham, NC (USA). He graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1983 with a degree in mechanical engineering, is a registered international professional engineer, and in 2014 obtained a MSc in baromedical sciences from the University of Stellenbosch. After conscripted service in the South African Navy, a lengthy career in the nuclear industry and then managing a range of industrial companies, he served, and later led, Divers Alert Network (DAN) in South Africa from 1996 to 2018. He is currently the VP of Safety Services at DAN in Durham, NC.

President - Underwater Skills Institute

Aaron is an Inshore Diving Safety Specialist, having graduated from Seneca’s UWS program in 1994. He completed a Red Seal Millwright apprenticeship while working on the Mechanical/Dive team at the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation’s Welland Canal Operations, completing it in 2000.
